"Six Degrees! What the hell?!"
For the Farewell Breakfast of the Regional Conference that UCF will be hosting, we are planning to hire some comedians for entertainment called the Six Degree Comedy Improv Troupe. On Monday night, they were performing at a local coffee shop across the street from campus. I got out of class at 6 and their show started at 9. Nine! 3 hours to kill. In the afternoon I invited Zena to come with me, hoping she didn't have anything planned and that it wouldn't be too late for her. Because she is awesome, she agreed to come too. I was supposed to meet with Andrea at 6 but, once again, she couldn't make it. But we were able to to talk on the phone and discuss a little bit of the topics anyway.
We ate dinner outside while we waited for 9pm when this guy comes up asking for our "help". He was telling his "sob story" of how he *only* needs 5 more magazine subscriptions to win his contest to get to Hawaii. Some how we were supposed to feel sorry for him? He was giving his whole spiel and being really nice and I *almost* gave in, but ha ha! I had no money. Zena was being super nice and bought a subscription while I declined just as he was about to write out a receipt. The temptation of compulsive purchasing surpassed me! So now he only had *four* subscriptions to go. He had to have some sort of money on the spot and Zena didn't have any with her so we all walked to her car all the way in the engineering garage. LoL so on the way, we were entertained by more of his life story, about his going to school to learn a trade and then finding it useless. so now he's not in school, but soliciting on campus, to sell his way to a hawaii trip instead of earning it with normal people work. oops did i just say that out loud? :p But he was really nice and wasn't some scary stalker, so that deserves a commendation.
After that random encounter, we went to the engineering building to hang out in the office, but instead we found Dan (Jonnie's boyfriend). Yay! We sat down to distract him from his work as Zena told him about her Latin Rhythm Club incidents. lol. He gave her advice from a guy's perspective. Then Jonnie came from her class. Yay! (Oh I hope she got her calculator back...) All four of us were hanging out, all distracting Dan from his homework lol, and then FINALLY at 8:45 we decided to head out. Jonnie and Shannon (who was at another table doing homework) went to the team captain meeting for volleyball.
We arrive at the Natura Coffee & Tea Shop and it was much closer than I thought! Admission is supposed to be $3 but then Zena found her friend of many years ago that worked with the comedy group. She caught up with her and we were able to get in for free. It turned out her fiance was in the group, so maybe she didn't really "work" with them, but just was with them.
The show itself was ok. Andrea's looking more for them to impersonate someone rather than doing the improv acts they did that night. It was like "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" on a much smaller scale. They're all of college age and not as professional as I thought they'd be. Some of their stuff was really laugh out loud funny and then there would be times that was just... not funny. In fact, one of the acts were cut off because it was so bad and one of them even said "...this is the worst improv act we've ever done." Hey but that was kind of funny :P I think the funniest skit was when there were two teams of two and one had to describe a product to the seller with charades. lol. one was a "snotty condom doing anal" (see "not as professional as I thought they'd be") and the other was a "self-basting squid doing algebra". haha. but i have faith in andrea and in them that they are awesome impersonators, so I am going to email them about the conference gig.
Oh and the title of my post? Everytime they finished a bit/skit all of them would clap their hands, pose and shout "Six Degrees!" The the audience would have to say "What the hell?!" lol
