Cosmos and Cocktails Knight
So last week I went to Slingapour's to meet with the SWE Professional section and my other fellow SWE people. It was the pros' first official meeting and it's supposed to be a time for us to get to know them. I only actually talked to two pros but... that's okay. I wasn't really sure what I wanted to ask or anything. Though I did learn some pointers. Oh, Slingapour's is an Asian cuisine restaurant by day, but by night (depending on which night) becomes a hip hop club. I never would've guessed, it looks so innocent! And... asian! :p I actually picked someone up along the way to come with me. Not some random hitch hiker, Shune from SWE. She's cool and was really nice about the not having air conditioning in my car thing. haha.
After Slingapour's we went to the Orlando Science Center for an event they have every 3rd Friday called Cosmos and Cocktails. The exhibits are open to everyone who comes and the cocktails part are the drinks provided. There's a theme for each time, and this one was the 80's. Dude I seriously thought some of those people came straight from the 80s! haha. Michael Jackson Dance offs, sunglasses at night, the robot, and a lot more. That was from 6-11pm but we didn't show up until about 9pm. I invited Matt and Kate to meet me there since I said I would go to the movies with them before but I forgot about this going on. They thought it'd be fun so I said I'd be there by 8pm. Oops. So, I felt so bad for them, they didn't have a cell phone with them so they were calling me from a payphone or one of their phones from the lobby. I said I'd be there soon but we were all leaving together. An hour rolls by and we finally show up, they're looking sad and helpless (hee hee not really) at the entrance. They dressed up for it! Matt was lookin sleek in his maroon shirt and his dad's old pink tie while Kate had a very 80's-esque dress. I missed her poofy hair though! Sadness. It didn't survive the hour. The Science Center is like 5 floors so on each floor has something different going on. We went to the top to the dancefloor to attempt to dance and watch the others. After that there was a highly anticipated laser light show in the dome room. That's like the place you'd simulate seeing the galaxy at Griffith Park Observatory. Neato. The laser show was set to Pink Floyd music. It sounded basically like their entire collection since it was about FOURTY FIVE minutes long! Who watches a laser show that long?? The effects weren't that spectacular. I was sitting there 10minutes into it thinking Man if I was drunk or high I would SO be loving this... That was my theory anyway haha. Cuz look at it this way, if this is Cosmos and COCKTAILS, and everyone is drunk or at least slightly inebriated, their judgement would be a little skewed. Especially for the surveys they gave us afterwards. :p It was kind of cool with that one Money song they have because they had cartoon characters chasing each other for money and then blowing each other up, but otherwise there were a lot of radical curvy lines and designs. At one point I thought Hey! That's the sine function we use for trig! Haha Dork. I'm apparently not a Pink Floyd fan since the music didn't excite me. The end was sort of freaky with some sort of alien probe. Oh and it also reminded me of Tron. haha. that's old school.
